Rods and Rod Ends
The MARSHALL rods and rod ends are made of quality structural carbon steel (41Cr4, SAE 5140). All products completely match the original dimensions, using nuts of strength grades 10, 10.9, and Renolt HG1 high-quality lubricants made by the Fuchs company.
Rods and rod ends by MARSHALL have a number of benefits:
High Corrosion Resistance
The MARSHALL rods and rod ends are covered in electrostatic lubricant and painted. The paint with film thickness of 30–40 µm was tested in the environmental chamber at the temperature range of minus 50°С to plus 150°С and withstood a 500-long brine test under the jet pressure of more than 20 bar. Thus, corrosion protection is ensured for up to 5 years.
High Strength
Mechanical damages of steel appear as deformation of crystal lattice. To avoid these deformations, manufacturing of the MARSHALL rods and rod ends involves controlled cooling of metal parts, which ensures high strength of structures.
High Wear Resistance of Steering Rod End
Inner surface of the MARSHALL rod end housings undergoes induction hardening, which increases their hardness up to 60 points on the Rockwell scale and resists wearing of housings. Absence of induction hardening causes failure of the entire assembly after only 1,000 km.
ВIn addition, higher wear resistance is achieved by increasing the ball coupling diameter for rod ends, which expands the work area of the ball, and by applying manganese phosphate coating to the inner surfaces.
During the manufacturing process, the MARSHALL rods and rod ends are continuously inspected for absence of microcracks and invisible defects by MAGNAFLUX magnetic particle inspection equipment, which ensures the ball pin integrity during the entire service life of the part.
Ball Pin Tear-Out off the Rod End Housing
During the manufacturing process, the MARSHALL products are continuously inspected for absence of microcracks and invisible defects by MAGNAFLUX magnetic particle inspection equipment, which ensures the ball pin integrity during the entire service life of the part.
High-Quality Boots
The boots used in the MARSHALL rod end assembly are manufactured using the same materials as in the original parts (chloroprene (CR), polyurethane with hardness grade of 60/70). This ensures reliable dust and dirt protection of the rod internal components.
Above mentioned technical solutions ensure high product reliability and long service life. That is why the MARSHALL rods and rod ends have a long warranty period—2 years.
